Martin Belzner Network Coding for Traffic Protection in Data Transport Networks
186 Seiten, Dissertation Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (2012), Softcover, A5
Network availability and consequently reliable end-to-end connectivity is one of the key components in today’s communication world. However, a high network availability realized via connection protection and restoration mechanisms often comes at the cost of increased operational and capital expenditures for the transport provider. The concept of Network Coding allows to combine the advantages of 1 + 1 protection and 1 : N protection. It can provide similar error protection and recovery for single link failures as the 1 + 1 approach at the reduced cost of a 1 : N protection method. In this thesis analytical models for 1 + N protection in arbitrary meshed networks are derived. A special emphasis is set on the modeling and analysis of a realistic network wide traffic demand data rate distribution and its influence of the achievable resource savings. New algorithms and optimization approaches for minimizing the required network wide transport resources are presented.
