Three-dimensional photonic crystals with spatially ordered features in the wavelength scale have the potential for controlling and manipulating the external infrared radiation. In this thesis, oxide ceramics based three-dimensional photonic crystals for high temperature applications are evaluated. Several aspects of these micro-structured materials including the underlying theory, designs, fabrication and characterization are discussed.
