Sebastian Zöller Events in Logistics - Efficient Detection and Transmission with Wireless Sensor Network Technology
226 Seiten, Dissertation Technische Universität Darmstadt (2014), Hardcover, B5
The availability of information is an important cornerstone for the efficient and effective management of logistics processes. A substantial enhancement of information availability can be achieved through the early detection of events occurring during transport processes in combination with a timely information about the detected event occurrence. The application of wireless sensor network technology makes the realization of solutions which can provide such early event detection and timely transmission of alarm messages possible. However, the efficient usage of wireless sensor network technology for this purpose in a logistics context requires energy-efficient and cost-efficient, stakeholder-oriented solutions for the operation of the corresponding wireless sensor network.
In this work, we provide a new local data filtering approach to achieve such an energy-efficient and cost-efficient, stakeholder-oriented operation of a wireless sensor network in a logistics environment. Our approach consequently allows to reduce energy consumption and costs while simultaneously accounting explicitly for stakeholders' information demands. In order to also realize an energy-efficient and cost-efficient solution for long-range data transmissions from a wireless sensor network to remote user systems to enable timely stakeholder notifications, we additionally investigate possibilities to interconnect wireless sensors and smartphones.
