Marcus Alexander Holbach Enantioselective Liquid-Liquid Extraction in Process Intensified Extraction Columns
180 Seiten, Dissertation Technische Universität Dortmund (2015), Softcover, A5
The realization of process intensification by using micro- and millistructured equipment has the potential to control fluids on the sub-millimeter scale. A high specific surface area results in high heat and mass transfer rates, which make it possible to control and accelerate transfer limited processes. This permits applications, which are only technically possible or cost efficient by using process intensified equipment.
The aim of this thesis is to present the process intensification of the enantioselective extraction. Racemic mixtures of enantiomers can be separated by using a reactive extraction. The big challenge of the reaction is often a small operational selectivity. This small selectivity results in a high number of necessary countercurrent extraction stages, which is difficult to realize in conventional extraction columns. To overcome this challenge, a process intensified extraction column was developed leading to a better mass transfer and more theoretical stages within a small hold-up.
