In future wireless networks, advanced relays are a crucial feature to provide system fairness and enhanced performance. However, these goals are only achieved if the system's designer uses an efficient resource allocation strategy. In this work, we visit three major aspects of resource allocation for relay-enhanced networks, namely, resource partition for the wireless backhaul link, interference management, and quality of service. We propose algorithms to improve the overall system performance and user fairness. Moreover, we demonstrate that the relays can provide high rate services to users that could not receive such services without the deployment of relays.
