Gustavo A. Guarin-Aristizabal Design of Ultra-Wideband Systems for Biomedical Applications
138 Seiten, Dissertation Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (2016), Softcover, A5
In recent years, the market of mm-wave systems has experienced a huge expansion driven by the development in the areas of communications and automotive radar, which has been impulsed by factors like the improvement of IC technologies based on Silicon and SiGe and the advance in DSP techniques. However, the bandwidth evolution and the development of new mm-wave applications have been limited due to constraints in signal generation imposed by the linearity and power consumption of the VCO circuits used in typical frequency sweep topologies. Besides, the physical limitations imposed in the signal acquisition by commercial ADCs restricts the bandwidth at the receiver.
The work presented here is mainly focused to solve the aforementioned problems by showing the design and implementation of UWB systems based on PRBS signals. Furthermore, multiple novel mm-wave-systems with ultra-wide bandwidths targeting new applications are demonstrated. The system serves as a proof of concept for mm-wave solutions that can be tuned for different biomedical and industrial applications.
