Thorsten Nikolaus Hans Finite Element Simulation of the braiding process, (Band 44)
164 Seiten, Dissertation Technische Universität München (2017), Softcover, A5
The use of automated manufacturing processes for mass production of composite structures has resulted in a demand for enhanced understanding of process sensitivities and optimisation, which can be realized by the application of process simulation. A simulation approach to the over-braiding process is presented in this work. Any mandrel geometry can be analysed. The preform properties braiding angle and yarn spacing are calculated in an automated post-processing algorithm. The friction coefficients between the contact pairs occurring in the braiding process are required as input parameters for the braiding simulation and, therefore, determined from experimental studies. The simulation model is successfully validated against a wide range of mandrel geometries and braiding angles.
