Steffen Salenbauch Modeling of Soot Formation and Oxidation in Reacting Flows
246 Seiten, Dissertation Technische Universität Darmstadt (2018), Hardcover, A5
Soot particles are usually an unwanted byproduct in reactive flows. Due to their negative impact on human health, the emission limits of combustion devices have continuously become stricter. To further reduce the emissions, a detailed understanding of the physico-chemical effects that are responsible for soot formation is required. For the investigation of these phenomena, computational fluid dynamics simulations will become increasingly important. Therefore, soot models are required that describe these effects in detail. This PhD thesis introduces new soot models based on quadrature-based moment methods and Monte Carlo algorithms. The models are derived, implemented and applied in simulations to demonstrate their accuracy in predicting the formation and evolution of soot particles in reactive flows.
