Matthias Samuel Niethammer A Finite Volume Framework for Viscoelastic Flows at High Weissenberg Number
177 Seiten, Dissertation Technische Universität Darmstadt (2019), Softcover, A5
The present work deals with the numerical study of viscoelastic flows. The fundamental objectives are: (i) the development of a generic numerical framework for the transient simulation of viscoelastic flows in complex geometries at high Weissenberg number based on a finite volume method; (ii) the predictive numerical analysis of the flow of polymer solutions and concentrated polymer melts in contraction geometries for the challenging case of high Weissenberg numbers; (iii) the extension of the Volume-of-Fluid (VoF) method for direct numerical simulations (DNS) of two-phase flows with at least one viscoelastic phase; (iv) direct numerical simulations of a rising bubble in a viscoelastic fluid in order to predict the jump discontinuity of the steady rise velocity when the bubble exceeds a critical volume.
