The synthesis of nanostructured, functional materials and their rapidly growing incorporation in various components and devices has afforded the development of progressive synthetic strategies suitable to accomplish the challenging task. The versatility of the bottom up synthesis demands a continuous modulation of precursor properties with aimed synthetic protocols for the molecular building blocks to afford a rational design. This work describes synthetic strategies to single-source precursors containing all the elements required to make the targeted mixed metal oxide materials. The chemical synthesis of nanomaterials allows a high controllability of structural parameters as well as phase purity of the resulting material in gas phase as well as liquid phase syntheses.
