Tobias Saalfeld Mixed-Signal Complex Baseband Processing in Multi-Standard Radio Receivers
219 Seiten, Dissertation Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen (2020), Hardcover, A5
This work presents the implementation of the baseband processor of a low power wireless transceiver system-on-chip for use in narrow-band IoT and Industry 4.0 communication. Focus is set on the analog and digital complex-valued baseband processing of the received packets and telegrams. Therefore, this work highlights the system design, the implementation considerations as well as measurement aspects. The design of a multi-bit delta-sigma modulator based ADC is discussed in detail. Several approaches for filter coefficient definition are presented and used for optimization of the chosen filter architecture. Main interfering influences to the implementation, e.g., the process, voltage and temperature variations or sampling clock signal noise are investigated. The decimation of highly oversampled delta-sigma ADC data streams, and finite impulse response filters are presented. Moreover, the filtering requirements in digital domain and the demodulation are explained in detail and suitable hardware implementations are introduced. In conclusion, interlocking analog and digital system components are presented and assemble a versatile baseband processor that handles a diverse set of standards. A highly complex multi-mode baseband processor of an TRX ASIC has been implemented, measured and the wide range of use-cases makes an application in many fields possible.
