Oxide Supported Platinum Atoms and Nanoparticles: Preparation, Characterisation, Atom Mobility and Catalytic Properties in the Reduction of Nitric Oxide by Methane

133 Seiten, Dissertation Technische Universität München (2012), Hardcover, A5

Zusammenfassung / Abstract

The immobilization of isolated Pt-atoms on oxide supports, the impact of the thermal treatment and the interaction of platinum with reactive molecules was investigated.

Grafting of organometallic complexes on the support was found to be the best preparation method. Pt-concentration and -dispersion was configured by variation of temperature and contact time between support and precursor. The dispersion and atom mobility of the Pt-atoms was studied by infrared spectroscopy. Additionally, the stoichiometry, the role of oxygen and nitrogen dioxide as well as the mechanism of the selective reduction of nitric oxide with methane over Pt-catalysts was investigated. One methane molecule reduces four nitric oxide molecules. Oxygen and nitrogen dioxide poison the catalyst. Dissociation and reduction of nitric oxide takes place on the Pt-surface. Activated methane is oxidized by adsorbed oxygen.
