Jan-Bernd Große Daldrup A Contribution to the Crystallization of Aqueous Multisolute Amino Acid Solutions
173 Seiten, Dissertation Technische Universität Dortmund (2012), Softcover, A5
Many amino acids are produced by biotechnical processes. The output of these processes are multisolute mixtures, from which the product is separated in a complex downstream process. These downstream processes contain several separation steps and a final crystallization step. As the crystallization’s performance is highly sensitive on impurities and cosolutes it defines the preceeding separation steps. To design and to optimize the downstream process, the solubility and the crystallization behavior of the product has to be known. The yield of the crystallization process is defined by solubility, the product properties are defined by the crystal shape. The solubility depends on the impurities and cosolutes, whereas the crystal shape additionally depends on the operating conditions.
This thesis contributes to the understanding of crystallization of multisolute amino acid mixtures in water. The solubility of ternary mixtures was investigated, including the pH-dependency of the solubility in ternary mixtures. Furthermore the growth and crystallization of L-Leucine was investigated from pure solution and in the presence of impurities.
