In situ product recovery of extracellular proteins An integrated approach between cell physiology, bioreaction and magnetic separation

252 Seiten, Dissertation Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (2012), Softcover, A5

Zusammenfassung / Abstract

In situ product removal constitutes a powerful method to overcome process limitations in order to increase the overall product yield and to improve process efficiency. The present work deals with the integration of selective in situ magnetic separation (ISMS) into the production processes of extracellular proteins such as enzymes and antibody fragments. The impact of ISMS on the overall process performance has been critically evaluated by experimental and theoretical approaches.

Moreover, magnetic separation has been investigated as a tool for harvesting algae and filamentous moss from diluted liquid media. Due to low algae biomass concentrations obtained during cultivation, magnetic separation is a promising alternative to conventional separation methods such as centrifugation and filtration.
