Elias Chebli The Variable Outlet Radial Turbine
121 Seiten, Dissertation Universität Stuttgart (2012), Hardcover, B5
After a decade where inlet turbine variability has dominated variable turbine systems in turbocharging, an innovative turbine outlet variability is presented and investigated in this book. The VOT (Variable Outlet Turbine) controls the flow cross section at the turbine outlet and has the ability to govern the impeller exit conditions. The flow variability is achieved by variation of the flow cross-section at the turbine outlet using an axial displacement of a sliding sleeve over the exducer and provides a simple solution for flow variability.
This thesis makes a useful and thorough contribution to the design and understanding of the VOT including basic considerations of the design concept, CFD performance analysis at design and off-design, followed by experimental verification and demonstration on a turbocharger test stand and an engine test bench. This work was carried out at the turbocharging R&D department of Mercedes-Benz (Daimler AG) in Stuttgart, Germany.
