Design of Integrated RF Components for M-Sequence Ultra-Wideband Systems

123 Seiten, Dissertation Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (2015), Softcover, A5

Zusammenfassung / Abstract

The increase of wireless applications in our life implies the use of systems that are more immune to noise. Noise-shaped signals like M-sequence have been extensively developed over the last decades. However, they have still more to contribute in ultra-wideband systems.

Through this book, the reader will be informed about the ultra-wideband M-sequence systems and there benefits. A class-A power amplifier, that feeds novel miniaturized antennas with specially low input impedance, is designed and measured. The miniaturized antennas are aimed to densely cover small human body parts to obtain high 3-dimensional imaging resolution, which is helpful for cancer detection at early stages. In order to keep the transmitting part as small as possible, the power amplifier is bonded on a board that is soldered on top of the ceramic antenna and has the same antenna upper surface dimension.

Furthermore, on the system level, a clock recovery circuit for M-sequence ultra-wideband system is analyzed and designed. This approach opens the door for the M-sequence ultra-wideband system to operate for new applications like channel sounding and radio communication. The synchronization system is realized using an on-chip correlation circuit which is mounted on a printed circuit board with a commercial voltage controlled oscillator and a loop filter. Experimental measurements proved that the proposed clock recovery system acquires the clock information correctly for different transmission channel mediums.
