Intensified Processes for a Sustainable Production of Bio-based Chemicals

212 Seiten, Dissertation Technische Universität Dortmund (2017), Softcover, A5

Zusammenfassung / Abstract

The development of sustainable and energy-efficient processes based on renewable raw materials becomes more and more important due to an increasing demand for reduced emissions and more environmentally friendly products. The most important feedstock for industrial use are refined vegetable oils. To further increase the environmental performance of oleochemical processes, the application of non-refined oils, e. g. crude nonedible vegetable oils or waste oils, is beneficial. However, the varying quality of these feedstocks and the high content of impurities, especially the high content of free fatty acids, necessitate the development of new and flexible process concepts. A promising approach to deal with this challenge is process intensification. Within the framework of this thesis, the potential of organic solvent nanofiltration (OSN), reactive distillation and microwave-assisted distillation to efficiently produce valuable building blocks from a wide variety of non-refined oils is studied in experiments and simulations.
