Model Order Reduction and Substructuring Methods in Structural Dynamics - Dynamic Substructuring Methods for Undamped and Arbitrarily Damped Systems

151 Seiten, Dissertation Technische Universität München (2019), Softcover, A5

Zusammenfassung / Abstract

This thesis addresses methods for model order reduction in structural dynamics, which are of immense importance for fast, accurate, and efficient computation and simulation in the design, development, and validation of structural dynamic components. Model order reduction methods aim to approximate the mechanical or structural dynamic behavior of a component or system by a reduced model as accurately as possible according to different criteria.

The focus of this work is on so-called dynamic substructuring methods for model order reduction of linear systems. Substructuring methods divide the large model of a component into a certain number of substructures or subcomponents. Each individual substructure is analyzed and reduced separately. The reduced substructure models are then combined into a low-order reduced model of the overall structure. This thesis addresses both substructuring methods for undamped or classically damped systems and substructuring methods for nonclassically damped systems.

In this thesis, the dual Craig-Bampton method, which has some shortcomings in its original form, is investigated in detail, improved, and further developed. Furthermore, substructuring methods for nonclassically damped systems are analyzed and categorized. Based on this, novel substructuring methods for nonclassically damped systems are derived.
