Yanlu Wang High Efficiency High-Data-Rate Transceivers for Millimetre-wave Communications

This thesis provides a design exploration and critical component evaluation of a high-efficiency, high-data-rate transmission system based on continuous-phase frequency-shift keying (CPFSK) for indoor short-range wireless communication. The implemented CPFSK transmitter, including the PRBS generator and the digitally-controlled oscillator (DCO), demonstrates a measured data rate of 16 Gbps with a total power consumption of 161.2 mW, where the modulator only consumes 12.6% of the total power. The simulated EVM is 4.49% with the proposed FAC demodulator. Due to its simple implementation and low power consumption, it can be adapted for future cost-efficient millimetre-wave and sub-THz wireless communication system applications.
