Philip Birtel Inclusion of Multi-Reflections in the Beam-Wave Interaction Simulation of Traveling Wave Tubes
131 Seiten, Dissertation Technische Universität Hamburg-Harburg (2011), Softcover, A5
Traveling Wave Tubes (TWTs) are used as final-stage amplifiers in satellite communications. In this capacity, they are required to be highly linear to avoid distortions of the amplified signals. The internal reflections present in the TWT, especially due to the input and output couplers and the sever, create a frequency dependence of several characteristics of the TWT. Most notably, the small-signal gain and the output power at saturation become periodic with frequency. These effects create distortions, and it is desirable to evaluate these distortions via simulation during the design of the TWT. To this aim, a beam-wave interaction simulation code is modified to take the effects of the internal reflections into account, and the obtained results are validated by comparison with measurements.
