Zusammenfassung / Abstract

The dissertation deals with freeze-drying of microorganism. The focus is on stabilizing and destabilizing mechanisms that apply during drying and subsequent storage. The dependence of these mechanisms on process conditions and specific material properties (in particular the glassy state) are investigated. The work builds a bridge between material science and micro-biology and thus provides new insights towards stabilization of sensitive biomaterial, cell cultures in particular.
