Gerald Öttl Impact Evaluation of Air Transport Concepts on Global Airport Operations
176 Seiten, Dissertation Technische Universität München (2014), Hardcover, A5
An evaluation of the impact of novel air transport concepts and technologies on their operational environment is crucial for their successful and efficient development. This requires relevant environment conditions. Main challenges are the worldwide diversity in environment conditions as well as the highly uncertain future development of these until the potential introduction into service of the evaluated concepts.
Therefore, a systematic approach to derive current representative environment conditions based on cluster analysis is presented in this thesis and applied to the example of runway capacity impact evaluation of two blended-wing-body aircraft. Moreover, plausible future developments of the resulting representative airport and peak traffic situations are elaborated by use of scenario techniques.
The application example demonstrated that a systematic specification of representative environment conditions is important to ensure universality and global relevance of impact results. The derived clusters of most relevant traffic situations enable an estimation of the impact range, compared to considering few specific local situations only, while still keeping the analysis effort limited and manageable.
