Gilbert Tay Applying Complex Network Theory to Technology Assessment in Early Conceptual Aircraft Design
327 Seiten, Dissertation Technische Universität München (2022), Hardcover, D4
This work contributes to the rapidly developing field of complex network theory by further developing its foundations toward a practical application in early conceptual aircraft design. Nine air transport network regions spanning the globe were characterised using complex network theory and visualised to enable a comprehensive understanding of the network at a macro-level. A novel technique utilising a macro-level network model is presented that enables the operationally driven evolution of air transport networks to be simulated and visualised using schematic diagrams. The results of a future growth-constrained network scenario reveal useful insights regarding the evolution of air transport networks. Insights on the ability of the network system to further scale and accommodate the increased air traffic volumes were revealed in other air transport network regions of the world.
