Phase Transitions and Real-Time Dynamics of Spin and Charge Densities in One-Dimensional Correlated Systems

250 Seiten, Dissertation Universität Augsburg (2011), Softcover, B5

Zusammenfassung / Abstract

In this thesis I have discussed the physics of insulator-insulator transitions in the one- dimensional strongly correlated systems. In addition I have also studied real-time dynamics of the charge and spin degrees of freedom when a single electron is inserted in the insulating ground state of a system. At the same time my goal has been the development and improvement of numerical techniques that can be used to extract information from the many-particle Hamiltonians used to model quantum strongly correlated systems. In the last years solid-state physics has increasingly benefited from scientific computing and the importance of numerical techniques is growing quickly in this field. Because of the high complexity of the realistic systems, full understanding of their properties cannot be developed using analytical methods only. Numerical simulations do not only provide quantitative results for the properties of specific materials but are also widely used to test the validity of theories and analytical approaches.
