When transforming business applications, an important aspect lies in the migration of the data hold by the systems in focus. However, approaches commonly used in software engineering are only partially applicable for the permanent one-time movement of data.

After having proven the relevance of the topic by means of an explorative study, this book presents D-Move, a detailed process model for the migration of data. Comprising phases, activities, roles, and deliverables, D-Move rests on an extensive literature study and multiple interviews with data migration experts. The model is further evaluated by means of a case study and another series of industry interviews.
