Ralf Biedert Gaze-Based Human-Text Interaction / Text 2.0
215 Seiten, Dissertation Technische Universität Kaiserslautern (2013), Hardcover, A5
Reading research has been conducted for more than a century. In the last 50 years, computing has evolved to become ubiquitous, granting us access to search engines, databases, and to the processing power required to perform complex computations in realtime. The last decade has brought eye tracking technology to the verge of becoming a mass market technology.
Combining these three observations, we ask: What if digital texts can be made ‘aware’ of how they are being read? How could the human-text interaction be made more efficient and entertaining on an individual level? Could the textual interaction data acquired from people with eye tracking also benefit those without?
We address three key domains: First, a robust and intuitive integration of gaze on the document level, this serves as our technical foundation. Second, an investigation of the patterns of gaze during information acquisition, entertainment and text editing. Third, how the recorded gaze data of many users can be aggregated to provide objective and implicit feedback in order to improve textual quality and analyze reading interaction.
