Philip Werner Metz Visible lasers in rare earth-doped fluoride crystals
177 Seiten, Dissertation Universität Hamburg (2014), Softcover, A5
The topic of the present work is the investigation of rare earth-doped fluoride crystals regarding their suitability as active materials for the generation of visible laser light. This includes a determination of ground state absorption, stimulated emission, and excited state absorption properties, as well as measurements of fluorescence decay dynamics. Furthermore, laser experiments were performed. For this purpose, trivalent samarium, terbium, and dysprosium as well as the more established trivalent praseodymium-ion were doped into different fluoride host crystals. Besides common host materials for visible lasers like LiLuF4, LiYF4, KY3F10, and BaY2F8, also less common CaF2, SrF2, and LaF3, and even novel rare earth-doped fluorides like hexagonal ß-NaGdF4 and orthorhombic ß-Y0.5Gd0.5F3 were grown and successfully utilized in laser experiments.
