Zusammenfassung / Abstract

The issue of aesthetics and in particular aesthetic quality assessment of paintings and other types of artworks has been a hot topic of research for many years for artists, philosophers, and psychologists. Using a computational approach, in recent years researchers from the fields of computer vision and image processing have also tried to distinguish between aesthetic and non-aesthetic artworks.

In this work, using different computer vision techniques, various features which can be linked to the universal characteristics of aesthetic paintings are introduced and extracted from images. Then, different features are introduced that in combination are able to model the ratings given to different paintings by subjects.
