Workflow Extraction from Textual Process Descriptions

187 Seiten, Dissertation Johann Wolfgang Goethe Universität Frankfurt/Main (2016), Hardcover, A5

Zusammenfassung / Abstract

Natural language is a widespread mean of storing and sharing knowledge. Procedural knowledge is the knowledge concerning how to perform something. Procedural knowledge expressed in natural language is called a textual process description. Such textual process descriptions exist in different domains (e.g. technical diagnosis, cooking). A different representation of procedural knowledge is the workflow representation. Contrary to textual process descriptions, the procedural knowledge comprised in workflows can be processed by machines. Thus, to make the large amount of procedural knowledge expressed in textual process descriptions available for machines, it is necessary to transform textual process descriptions into workflows. Workflow extraction is the transformation of a textual process description into a formal workflow. This thesis presents approaches for worklow extraction, including the evaluation of prototypes in different domains.
