III-V Semiconductor Photonic Integrated Circuits with Quantum Dots as Single-Photon Emitters

333 Seiten, Dissertation Universität Stuttgart (2017), Softcover, A5

Zusammenfassung / Abstract

Photonic integrated circuits are well-established building blocks in the mainly silicon based optical telecommunication. Combining this technology with state of the art single-photon emitters is promising for the advance from classical circuits to quantum photonic integrated circuits, which would allow not only the routing of quantum information but also its on-chip processing.

This work addresses the theoretical and technological transfer of semiconductor based photonic integrated structures from the silicon to the gallium arsenide platform including the implementation of indium arsenide quantum dots as single-photon sources. Rib waveguides operated in the single-mode regime and directional couplers with deterministic splitting ratio are presented as on-chip realizations of a fundamental one-qubit gate. All structures are benchmarked and classified with respect to their usability in scalable quantum computers. This includes an analysis of the integration density, the compatibility with super-conducting single-photon detectors and chip-fiber couplers as well as emission wavelength tuning of the quantum dots for a perspective fully-integrated multi-photon processor.
